German court rules Motorola Xoom is not iPad clone

A German court has ruled that the Motorola Xoom tablet does not copy Apple's iPad.

While the original Xoom may not be the newest tablet on the block, last August, the Cupertino-based company filed a complaint with the European Union, citing similarities in design over three patents. Motorola attempted a counter-claim, alleging that the iPad's design patent was invalid, but the court rejected this claim, according to the Dow Jones Newswires.

Before the ruling was finalised, the judge remarked that the shaped edges and "the evenly bent back" were differentiating features enough to separate the design from that of the iPad. Apple was ordered to pay two-thirds of court costs, while Motorola picked up the remaining third.
