Is this the Nikon D600?

An Italian camera dealer has jumped the gun and listed a new Nikon SLR — the D600.

Spotted by a Dutch reader on camera website Focus, the listing puts the D600 right next to other full-frame models in the Nikon range, the D800 and D700.

While it's far from an official announcement, the D600 is listed as available for presale from the Italian vendor. Rumours about a cheap full-frame camera from both Nikon and Canon have been circulating for several months now, in the lead-up to Photokina, the world's largest trade show for photography and imaging.

The specifications rumoured for the camera include a 24.7-megapixel full-frame sensor, an ISO range of 100-6400 and a 3.2-inch LCD screen. Previous images of the supposed D600 was leaked earlier this year in June.

The D600 picture posted in the flyer is practically a copy of the D800 picture and looks nothing at all like the leaked photos from June. The dealer could be talking about the real thing, and the D600 is most certainly coming, but not in that form factor and so far there's not an official leaked promotional photo from Nikon yet.
