Sony recalls VAIO TZ laptops
Sony advised today that there has been a recall on select units of its VAIO TZ series notebook, due to a short circuit causing it to overheat.
The problem was caused by "irregularly placed wires near the hinge" or "a dislodged screw inside the hinge" according to the US support site.
Products were affected worldwide, with all laptops sold between May 2007 and July 2008 being listed as potentially symptomatic on Sony's Australian support site.
While the US support site was more upfront with the problems affecting the TZ series, the Australian site simply described the issue as "Distortion to the plastic areas around the DC jack inlet or LCD surrounding area due to extreme high temperatures".
A free of charge inspection and repair service is available for those whose laptops are affected, which can be determined from the Australian support site.
