While the exterior hardware looks nearly identical to the old model, several new features were announced, including:

  • 1080p movies and TV shows from iTunes Store
  • Redesigned 1080p user interface
  • Ability to re-download purchased movies through iCloud
  • Photo Stream resolution bumped up to 1080p
  • Single-core A5 chip
  • "Genius" recommendations for movies
  • 1080p output.

Along with the new functionality, expect the new Apple TV will support the same features as the old model, including AirPlay, iTunes Match support, iTunes movie rentals and purchases, MLB.TV and YouTube.

The new Apple TV will be released on 16 March with an Australian price of $109.
