Back to the Future fans, rejoice! This morning at CES I came across a prototype DeLorean that's set to go into production in 2013. But you won't need to trade pinball parts to Libyans to acquire Plutonium for power. This is no ordinary time machine. This DeLorean is electric.
That's right, the DeLorean Motor Company plans to market the DMCEV in the United States in 2013, and will further develop prototypes combining the existing DeLorean automobile with the Epic EV electric power train.
With the 400-volt AC induction liquid-cooled electric motor, getting up to 88 miles per hour will be no problem, the carmaker says. This DeLorean will reportedly have a top speed of 125mph and goes from zero to 60 in just 4.9 seconds.

The vehicle charges from empty to full in just 3.5 hours using the DMCev Smart Charging Solution at 240 volts and 70 amps.

The Flux Power LIfePO4 battery charges in just 3.5 hours and gives the vehicle a range of 100+ miles, says the DeLorean Motor Company.

Epic EV and DeLorean plan to produce a number of prototypes utilising the Epic EV powertrain for evaluation this and next year.

Now you can own your very own time machine. When production begins next year, the DeLorean will be available for about US$100,000.

Must say I am happy to have two cars to aspire to now, a new delorean and and old delorean.
