Pay for your parking with QR codes

If you're heading through Burnley, Victoria, you can now pay for your parking on the Yarra Boulevard with a QR code.

The system has been set up by an Australian company called Parkmobile, which has been working with local councils to set up mobile payment methods for parking in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia. Although other locations do have support for the Parkmobile apps, they require the user to input a seven-digit location code to pay for parking.

This is the first time that QR codes have been used to let users pay for parking.

"Parkmobile is very excited to launch our mobile payment parking service in Burnley," said managing director of Parkmobile, Michael Doherty, in a press release. "With this technology, customers no longer have to search for $9 worth of coins at the start of each workday. With the addition of QR Codes to our suite of payment options, our Pay-By-App solution continues to be an example of innovative technology that can make our lives easier and more efficient."

Doherty told CNET that the company plans to roll out QR-code parking payment in other locations across Australia, and is also experimenting with NFC technology in the lead-up to the iPhone 5 launch.
